IFDC-ATT Officials visit PAVE site at Zhiong Community
Location: Northern Ghana
The new Chief of Party (COP) for the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), Mr. Mullins has paid an official visit to the Zhiong community in Northern Ghana, where one of the PAVE irrigation technologies has successfully been installed. The International Fertilizer Development Center is the implementing organisation for the USAID (Feed the Future) Agriculture Technology Transfer Project (ATT) in Ghana. Mr. Mullins was accompanied by officials from Conservation Alliance International (CA) and Pave Irrigation Systems Limited (PISL), the implementing agencies for the Pave technology in Northern Ghana. Additionally, his visit provided him the opportunity to understand the workings of the technology.
The project would enhance food security and improve nutritional status of farming households within the project area. The Pave technology captured water during the raining season and this would provide farmers the opportunity to practice dry season farming. Ultimately, this would increase farm productivity and household incomes for smallholder farmers.
Mr. Mullins was impressed about the level of work done by the project team at the site and was optimistic about the outcome of the project to bolster agricultural opportunities within the landscape. The Project Manager, Mr. Paa Osei-Owusu also added that, farmers were enthused about unique advantage of PAVE technology has over other irrigation technologies within the landscape. He used the opportunity to thank IFDC-ATT for the support to implement the project and also called on government and other interested organisations to support initiatives such as this, to increase agricultural production in Ghana.
